A Guide to Things to Do with Kids in Bucharest

Things to do with kids in Bucharest when staying for an extended period. I won’t go into all the details of our wanderings, but overall we stayed for nearly two weeks — and we had to keep the kids entertained somehow.

We found a great place to stay that also served as entertainment for the kids — Orhideea Residence & Spa. It’s a 10-story residential building converted into a hotel. We stayed in a three-bedroom apartment with all the amenities, including a kitchen and washing machine. There’s a rooftop restaurant with a city view and a decent breakfast in the morning, plus a large gym, pool, and solid saunas downstairs — which we all enjoyed both in the morning and evening.

Therme Bucharest

Very high standard — fun for both kids and adults. Water slides, pools, saunas — all top notch. We even caught a theater festival: performers staged shows right inside the sauna while swinging towels around.

Address: Calea Bucureşti 1K, Balotești 077015, Romania

Țiriac Collection Auto Gallery

Țiriac Collection Auto Gallery — mind-blowing for car lovers. Owned by the same person behind Klass Wagen. Honestly, he could’ve lent us one of his Ferraris instead of a Duster…

Address: Calea Bucureștilor 289, Otopeni 075100, Romania

Destiny Park

Destiny Park — a mini city of professions. We know the concept and our kids love it. We paid quite a bit, but within half an hour it was flooded with hundreds of children, and became unbearable. As we were about to leave, I decided to complain. A manager explained we had come on their busiest day — training day. He kindly offered us an open voucher to return. We came back the next day and spent almost the whole day there with hardly anyone else around.

Edenland Park

Edenland Park — a forest park with lots of attractions: kids’ play areas, rope courses, climbing walls, a zoo, and more.

Nearby, right by the river, there’s a small mall focused on children’s activities with an affordable restaurant serving tasty, varied food — Snagov Plaza.

Mogoșoaia Park

Mogoșoaia Park — a large, scenic park along the river with a castle and a “very fat tree.” Quiet and peaceful. We spent the whole day there.

Herăstrău Park

Herăstrău Park is a large park with a lake. We took a boat ride and had lunch at the massive Berăria H brewery. On weekends, there’s live music.

Orășelul Cunoașterii

Orășelul Cunoașterii is a science museum. It’s compact, but there’s a lot to explore both inside and outside — mainly logic puzzles and hands-on challenges. We had a fun half-day there, and you could easily stay longer.

Address: Strada Pajurei 3A, București 013151, Romania

Grigore Antipa National Museum

Skeletons, taxidermy, and natural phenomena. Next door in Kiseleff Park, there’s a mid-sized dinosaur park and a large working playground.

AFI Cotroceni is a large shopping mall. There are plenty of children’s activities — though pricey — like gymboree, a museum of senses, rope park, skating rink, and more.

Orășelul Copiilor is a small, somewhat aged amusement park. You pay separately for each ride.

Circul Metropolitan București

Circul Metropolitan București is a permanent circus — not bad at all. We lost our phone there and someone found and returned it. A nice surprise! Nearby is Parcul Circului, a park that’s not too run-down.

A charming spot in the city center with a great vibe. We stopped by Caru’ cu bere, a restaurant in a beautiful historic building. There was live music too — but the food was mediocre, overpriced, and overall a tourist trap.

Vatra restaurant, on the other hand, was great — tasty food, decent prices, more energetic music, and even dancing. Right nearby is the large lakefront park Grădina Cișmigiu. Sadly, the playgrounds were closed… you can’t have it all.

I believe that in almost any large city, you can find things to do with kids. And Bucharest is no exception.
