Just got back from an incredible trip to San Antonio, Texas, and wow, what a city! We weren’t expecting to be so drawn in by its history, but walking through the streets felt like stepping back in time.

One of our favorite stops was The Alamo. Even though I knew the basics, I had no idea how large the entirety of the Alamo was compared to just the church which is what most people think of when they think of the Alamo. It’s surreal to stand in the same place where such an intense battle took place.

The San Fernando Cathedral completely surprised us. It’s one of the oldest cathedrals in the US, and at night, they project an incredible light show on its facade, telling the story of Texas. You can watch it for free and it lasts for about 20 minutes.

The entire river walk in San Antonio is a real highlight but Arneson River Theatre is probably one of the coolest places there. Not only is it interesting historically, but we also got to witness some street performers while walking around.

Of course, we couldn’t miss Market Square, the energy, the music, the food! Definitely the best place to soak in the local culture. And then there’s the Buckhorn Saloon, where you can grab a drink surrounded by an insane collection of taxidermy (and even some random Texas Ranger artifacts).

What made this trip extra cool was discovering all these stories along the way. Friends recommended to us free audio tours, and it was so convenient! You get a route, interesting POIs, and you can listen to the story about every stop at your own pace. Without this guide, we would’ve missed some real hidden gems and many fascinating details about San Antonio.

Definitely a city I’d love to visit again!
