We stay AIRBNB: Genter Straße 13-15, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia 50672, Germany

When driving in Germany, it’s a legal requirement for cars to feature emissions stickers (Umweltplakette) for entering some of the country’s major cities which detail their emissions standard.

Parking:
https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187371-i534-k14751163-P_R_places-Cologne_North_Rhine_Westphalia.html
You cannot park in P+R places for several days. At least not without moving your car. That is not what they are made for. You can park there every day, though.

The info was probably hard to find because they didn’t feed the English version of the VRS website with the term “P+R”. Here’s the info in German, just do a google translate: https://www.kvb.koeln/fahrtinfo/park_and_ride.html

It says that P+R parking is free as long as you have a valid ticket for public transportation, but the maximum time is 24 hours. If you want to “park and forget” your car while you are in Cologne, it’s probably better to park it in a safe residential area in the outskirts somewhere and then take public transportation to the center.

Theres long term street parking for €5 per day in the city, which isnt all that expensive. The pay and display ticket machines take credit card (so no need for buckets of coins!) and you can book for up to a week in advance.

The areas you can park for a fiver a day are listed here: https://www.stadt-koeln.de/mediaasset/content/pdf66/parken/uebersichtskarte-24-stunden-03-2024.pdf

There are parking areas in the city along the train tracks (Schmalbeinstr. for example) where you can park for 4 Euro/day. But of course, wherever you park, don’t leave ANY valuables visible in the car.

The areas you can park for a fiver a day are listed here:

Park & Ride (P+R)

During Advent, you can travel into the city without the stress of parking!

You can park your vehicle for up to 24 hours free of charge in the KVB Park & Ride facilities if you have a valid public transport ticket (Deutschlandticket, subscription, single ticket, etc.) and you are departing and/or arriving directly on site using the public transport available. Otherwise, we recommend the 24-hour ticket in price level 1b.

With this, 1 person can use the KVB as well as the S-Bahn or regional trains in the Cologne city area for 8.50 euros (in the KVB app for 8.24 euros) or up to 5 people for 17.20 euros (in the KVB app for 16.68 euros). From all P+R facilities you can easily get to Cologne city center by bus and train.

Whether for Christmas shopping or to visit the many Cologne Christmas markets : use the P+R facilities and save yourself the stress of parking in the city center.

An interactive map for zooming in is available on the website of the city of Cologne .
