Today is a relaxed beach day. We just visited the mangrove forest. For those who, like me, weren’t aware – it’s a place where trees grow directly in salt water, and their roots form a kind of “soil.”
We arrived by motorboat and were required to wear life jackets – very official! As you approach, the first thing that hits you is the strong swampy smell. Near the shore, the “ground” underfoot feels springy, almost like rubber. Then it becomes normal. I’m not sure if they added soil here.
Unusual: the trees’ branches grow downward, and their tips feel like flexible rubber rods – they bend in all directions. We walked along the trails, where there are also cenotes where people swim, but we settled for a “fish pedicure.”
A unique and interesting experience!

Wildlife – in the last photo, that’s a termite mound! They are everywhere…
So far, everything is very interesting and unusual. As a tourist experience – wonderful! Overall, it feels completely safe. We are driving everywhere without any worries.
